Improv Jam
I have a feeling that improv is going to be one of the long term hobbies of mine, I can surely see myself doing it for the next 6 months.
Had one of my improv classes yesterday, I was very tired (the work is supper busy) but I decided to stay and Jam.
There was about 20-25 people (same skipped class and came just for jam), as I saw later only me and some chick were doing it first time, the rest of people seemed very experienced and probably had some serious acting backgrounds. The thing basically comprised of every one going out on scene with experienced imrpov instructor and play for 5-10 minutes. My turn was to be a third one.
What can I say, I sucked a big time lol, well not really sucked but for sure were less fluid in my play than other people, but I think I did well. I came to scene in front of everyone and I remember I had seriously hard time to start going, the mind just went total blank, I remember thinking ‘create a feeling and words will follow’, a minute later I catch myself again, and I actually flow with the play and acting.
I stayed and watched other people do their thing, and it was incredible, some of them do it so naturally.
I left with mixed feelings if I should stay for the next time or not. It is incredible learning opportunity to learn from more experienced people and I will have an extra motivation because I will see where I want to be. But on other hand it is very frustrating to be as bad as I am.
I still do not know if I am going to stay next time lol, guess I will just decide in spur of the moment.
On a related news I found another company that gives improv classes, they are very known and go by name “second city”, they have locations in Chicago, Hollywood and Toronto and been teaching this stuff for very long time. They are slightly more expensive than others, but I believe the quality will be superb. Given that I am not trying to be an artist but just acquire some skills that gonna stay with me for the rest of my life I decided to check them out further.
They have walk in class as well, I am probably going to check it out the upcoming Monday or the next one.
P.S: I wish those people would come to Toronto, I would be totally up doing something similar.
